A native of Southwest Missouri (Monett), John Moore became the Executive Director of the Upper White River Basin Foundation in May of 2007. Dr. Moore grew up in Missouri, Kansas and Minnesota and graduated from Edina High School in suburban Minneapolis. He attended Yale University where he majored in history, the arts and letters and graduated cum laude with a B. A. degree in 1964. He continued at Yale and received a master’s degree in history in 1965.

After teaching in New Haven, Connecticut, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Dr. Moore served as an officer in the U.S. Army, including a tour as commander of a field artillery battery with the 7th Infantry Division in Korea. Following military service, Dr. Moore enrolled at Harvard University in the Graduate School of Education where he received a doctor’s degree in 1971.

John Moore served as an administrator in the Kirkwood school District in suburban St. Louis from 1970 until 1974 and as vice president of Athens College in Athens, Greece during 1974-75. In 1975 he was appointed Assistant Commissioner of Education for the State of Missouri and served in this post until he became President of Drury University (Springfield, Missouri) in 1983. Dr. Moore continued as President of Drury until his retirement in 2005.

Since retiring from Drury, Dr. Moore has remained actively involved in civic and community affairs. Dr. Moore and his wife, Dr. Rebecca Denton, live in Springfield, Missouri.
