Fortenberry is a representative for the Arkansas Board of Health and a member of the Water Environment Federation, Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies, Arkansas Rural Water Association, Arkansas Environmental Federation, Arkansas Water & Wastewater Managers Association and the National Society of Professional Engineers, among many others.

Fortenberry is active for the Springdale Kiwanis Club, the Boy Scouts of America and was recognized as the 2006 Manager of the Year by the Arkansas Water & Wastewater Managers Association.
